It is a labor intensive technique & everything is created by human hand which makes it part of slow fashion but can create highly beautiful designs that creates magic on the textile. Indian connection to Hand block prints goes back to the Indus Valley Civilization & flourished during Mughal Patronage. Those intricate floral motifs are still widely used. Indian Hand block printing also commonly known as block printing originated in Baghru, Rajasthan but is extremely prevalent in Rajasthan, Gujrat & many other states of India. Mughals gave their intricate floral motifs, various parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat gave its colorful prints of Gods, humans, animals, birds, chilies, trees, Gamthi prints and what not to the ancient art form! In the era of machineries and mass production, creation of contemporary aesthetics with modern silhouettes & novel abstract prints has led to the revival, acceptance and celebration of ancient art form of Hand- block printing. Apart from experimenting with the modernized and westernized silhouettes, we, at Desi Finesse are specifically getting our own quirky and traditional blocks made and are aiming to redefine and contemporaries Hand-block printing in a completely novel way.
